Welcome to Tunisia, the country with three thousands years of history, and with 1 300 km of Mediterranean coast.

Tunisia is a country located on the extremity of North Africa and is separated from Europe by the Mediterranean Sea ; the Italian coast is only 200 kilometers away from the Tunisian coast.

This privileged geographic location has made Tunisia a sought-after land since the beginning of time. In the last millennium B.C., it was Carthage, the most powerful civilization of the ancient time, then a Roman province, when Rome defeated Carthage. Conquered by the Arabs around the year 700, it will experience periods of extraordinary prosperity. Well in advance from the rest of the world, the civilization Arab Muslim kept a privileged place for Tunisia, which became a real link between the East and the West. Later, she will mediate the fight between the Spaniards and the Turks Ottoman for the absolute supremacy of the Mediterranean Sea.

Today, with more than 1 300 km of coast (some hundreds of km of fine sand beaches), a temperate climate (the average temperatures vary between 13°C in the winter and 28°C in the summer) and a sunlight that reaches, on average, 7.8 hours per day (4.9 hours per day in January and 11.6 hours per day in July), Tunisia is a country where to spend a vacation by the beach and sun anytime during the year, all especially enjoyed by tourist who visit the country.

The stays in the Sahara, in the paradisiacal oasis, and the walks inside the country, close to many archeological sites and natural parks, contributing to attract each year millions of tourists in Tunisia, coming from many different parts of the world.

For the 9 million inhabitants living in Tunisia, the majority are living on the coastal cities (the capital, Tunis, houses 3 millions). The three most important cities are Tunis, Sousse and Sfax. The population, despite all the different journeys known by the country over the three thousands of years of history, it is intriguingly homogeneous; Islam is practiced by 99% of the Tunisians. The official language is Arabic; the language spoken is a dialect called « Derja ; » French is also spoken on the territory. The currency of the country is the Tunisian Dinar.

The 165 000 km2 of the surface area of Tunisia presents an even landscape. In the North, the scenery is dominated by immense green plains and low level plateaus; in the South, the Sahara stretches with its dunes and golden sand to infinity.
